Ice cream used to be such a simple affair. There was vanilla, there was chocolate and there was strawberry. These were simple times that my precious, simple young mind understood and enjoyed, especially when all three flavors came in the same tub Neapolitan-style. Then the 90s ended (still not over that to be honest) and the world collectively decided that the global gelato scene needed spicing up.

The other day I walked past a shop and saw a sign advertising ‘aubergine ice cream’. Now, I’m not one to be scared of change, but I refuse to believe that can taste anything other than disgusting. I’m sorry, I just won’t have it.

Of course, not all newly-developed flavors are quite so extreme. Some absolutely amazing new combinations have become super-popular (salted caramel, anyone?) and really taken the gelato business to new, gourmet levels! Attract your customers with some good ol’ advertising, and then make sure your marketing is backed up by the service itself – scrummy waffle cones holding the best ice cream in town! Bella Giulia’s major selling point? – it’s amazing array of flavors! From plain old vanilla (still the best, in my opinion) through to chocolate chip cookie dough, the customers really do have a fantastic choice. Be warned, though - certain flavors will cost you more to produce, although of course the rewards you reap from them will be greater!
